The ground breaking ceremony for Springs Church was held on April 20, 1969 with more than 100 persons in attendance at the location of the new church at 4700 South 129th West Avenue. Rev. J. Michael Ridenhour was an enthusiastic young man with a vision who served the church as founding pastor. The church held its first business meeting in October 1969, and various boards and committees were organized. On the evening of Sunday, November 23, 1969, the first worship service was held in the new church with 112 persons attending. Less than three years after plans to establish the new church were announced, the Board voted to purchase an additional 2.5 acres of land, bringing the total to 5 acres. Ground breaking for new educational rooms, a fellowship hall and new kitchen was held in June of 1972.
The church has an active Sunday School program with excellent teachers. Numerous talented teachers served in the youth and children's department. Through the years we have had an active and excellent Youth Group. We have been blessed with very talented musical leadership from choir directors Sharon Hill, Steve Stephensen, and Sally Knight with organist Christena Martin. There have been a variety of children's programs ranging from Children's Church, Bible Mountaineers, and Master and Me Children Ministry.
The church mortgage burning service was held on January 9, 1983. Participating in the service were former pastors Ridenhour and Ninemire, along with Rev. Ruben Schwieger. Under the leadership of Pastor Ray Rector, a building program was completed to remodel the sanctuary and add a foyer. At this time the pulpit, chor loft and baptistry were moved from the west end of the sanctuary to the east end. Stained glass windows were added in the sanctuary during the tenure of Rev. Loren Stephenson.
